"Vantage Point” - Being in a vantage point is both an advantage & an opportunity to change perspective. Share the story of a time when you gained either or both.
“Think of yourself as a lizard on the wall. Or a fly. Or a harmless moth. I want you to see yourself as a non-playing actor in your own story. When you tell a story, tell it from the vantage point that you now have on your own story.”
When I teach Storytelling, I ask my participants to shift their gaze and perspective. This is both a boon and a bane, depending on what you see from this vantage point!
Sometimes, life places us in positions where we can see more.
A little distance from a problem, a higher seat at the table, a pause in the routine — and suddenly, things look clearer, different, or even lighter. That’s the gift of a vantage point. It offers clarity, choice, and often, the courage to respond differently.
Look back at a moment this year when your view shifted — literally or metaphorically.
Did you physically move away from a situation and find peace or insight?
Did a promotion or new role help you see your work/life through a new lens?
Did someone else’s story help you change your own narrative?
Did a break, burnout, or life event help you see what truly matters?
A vantage point doesn’t always come with power. But it often comes with the power of perspective.
Tell that story today.

How to Use This Story?
This is a story that can help you reflect on growth. When you look back at it, ask yourself:
What would I have missed had I not changed my position, role, or mindset?
How can I remember this vantage point the next time I feel stuck?
Can this story help someone else see more clearly too?
Use it to inspire, to document your personal evolution, or to remind yourself how clarity often comes when you pause or rise above.
Storytelling Tip:
A change in perspective is often invisible to others — so narrate the before and after clearly. Describe the moment that helped shift your view. Was it a conversation? A pause? A realisation?
Anchor your story with small, specific details that show the emotional and mental distance you gained.
And remember — every vantage point has a story. Yours might just help someone else change theirs.
